Why am I involved with the My Green Eyes rock opera?
There are at least three reasons. Reason #1 is that I was lucky enough to hear a preview of the rock opera a couple of years ago at the Joern home. It was fantastic then as just a read-through, and will have evolved a lot since then. Second - I love the prodigal son parable. What a modern-day theme of love showing through all the pressures of life. And how many of us have not experienced some form of that parable-- my sister left home as a teen and got into the hippie drug thing. Dad flew to San Francisco in 1973 and saved her life, brought her home. My folks could have drawn some sort of line out of pride, but they opened their hearts with love and I am forever grateful. Finally, I love the twist with My Green Eyes and the sustainable agriculture movement. it brings the plot completely up to date in th way in which conventional agriculture pushes against the small scale, sustainable practices. So here we have great music, a prodigal son story and a sustainable agriculture theme - what more could we want??
